RNTC was established in 1968 as a joint initiative of Radio Netherlands Worldwide and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Over the years RNTC evolved from a broadcast media training centre to a centre of excellence in media, education and development.

Changes
During 40 years RNTC has gone through a number of changes:
- Geographical
We started with only courses in the Netherlands. Now we have a combination of courses in the Netherlands and in developing countries.
- Content
We had an exclusive emphasis on knowledge and skills. Currently, we also pay attention to the role and position of media and the corresponding responsibilities of media professionals.
- Target groups
In the beginning we trained individuals. Now we do capacity building at institutional and sector level too.
- Methods
Fourty years ago trainings were one-dimensional. Today we do ‘blended learning’, as we call it: a combination of various educational methods and techniques, including e-Learning.
- Partners
At first our focus was exclusively on media organisations. We have broadened our orientation towards a wide range of actors in the field of media, education and development.

Looking back, I can only say "thank you" to RNTC for opening my
eyes to the reality that the sky is indeed the limit.
